The Boston Bruins surprisingly announced a couple days ago that they cut top prospect Fabian Lysell in the first round of cuts which took most fans by surprise.

Lysell was thought to be one of the top options to replace former Bruins Jake DeBrusk as the team did not sign a second line winger in the off-season and most believed that he would at least start the year in Boston.

Lysell ended up not even making it past the first round of cuts and during the press conference yesterday, general Manager Don Sweeney told the media that Lysell will get an another opportunity and hopefully he takes advantage of it.

Don Sweeeny on Fabian Lysell:

«He'll get another opportunity and hopefully he takes advantage.»

Said training camp is far from over and they are still making evaluations.

Lysell is the biggest name here, though. There's no question that his first few days of camp and first preseason game were not good enough. He bounced back in a big way, though, scoring a goal and drawing two penalties in a stellar performance in Tuesday's preseason game, and following that up with another strong outing Saturday. While he didn't find the scoresheet against the Flyers, he did help create four quality scoring chances and effectively used his speed to drive transition play and gain the offensive zone.

And Lysell did all of that while not playing with any top-nine forwards in any of his three preseason games. He did practice on a line with Charlie Coyle and Tyler Johnson (who remains in camp on a professional tryout) on the first two days of camp, and he also skated with Coyle and Brad Marchand at Thursday's practice this past week.

Lysell will surely get another shot with the Bruins but clearly management was not pleased with his level of play during training camp since even head coach Jim Montgomery said they are going to need to see a lot more from him if he plays on making the team.
