Over the past two seasons, Sweeney has brought on high-caliber players such as Hampus Lindholm, Pavel Zacha, Dmitry Orlov, and Tyler Bertuzzi, but one stands out above the rest.
Zacha is the one who has exceeded expectations, surpassing his previous career best of 36 points by scoring 20 goals and contributing 35 assists in his initial 79 games with the Boston Bruins.
The former 6th overall pick was traded from the New Jersey Devils on July 13th, 2022, in return for forward Erik Haula. While Haula continues to perform well for the Devils (47 points in 79 games), Zacha is beginning to justify his first-round selection.
By exchanging the two players, Sweeney not only improved his team for the current season but also brightened their future prospects. Zacha inked a four-year, $19 million extension with Boston on January 14th, 2023.
