After signing a 5 year deal with the Edmonton Oilers two years ago, Campbell has been bouncing around the American Hockey League struggling to secure himself a new job as he was bought out by the Oilers.
Campbell signed a one year deal with the Red Wings this summer which he would have likely ended up playing in the AHL for the Grand Rapid Griffins, he will not be entering the NHLPA player's assistance program.
There has been no update as to what kind of help Campbell is seeking from the program but it does not come as necessarily a surprise after the tough couple of years he has had.
Fans have flooded social media wishing him all the best as he takes some time off to try and help himself in hopes of returning to hockey as a better player and human being.
The entire hockey community wishes him all the best during these difficult times.
Campbell has been part of the NHL for 11 years as he has bounced around a few teams in that time, playing in 176 games with a 93-52-18 record to go along with a 2.76 GAA and a .909 save percentage.
