Sweeney has some experience dealing with tough negotiations, but the one with Swayman has to take the cake as no one really knew when or even if a contract would be settled after the drama that ensued on Monday with President Cam Neely.
There are two main differences when it comes to the deals Swayman and Pastrnak signed. For one, Swayman was a RFA (restricted free agent), which meant that the player has less leverage and less time to figure out a deal that works for both sides. The 2nd and most important factor is his position. As a goalie, you are critical to the teams success, not that forwards like Pastrnak aren't, it is more that there are only 2 goalies, and with out a good one, you team has no chance to succeed.
The Bruins also traded away Linus Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators which put a major barrier in the sense where a goalie who had no leverage, actually go loads of it due to their seasons outcome being dependent on who is between the pipes.
Nonetheless, both sides seem happy with the deal and now we as fans can move on and look forward to the regular season.
