The Boston Bruins are cutting it very close as all NHL teams must submit their roster for the beginning of the year as of Monday night at 5PM.

If the Bruins are not able to get a deal done before the Monday deadline, Swayman's new contract will have a higher cap hit in the first year of the deal (this year) than all the years that follow which will put them in a tight position for the entire season.

All 32 teams must submit their season-opening roster by 5 o'clock on Monday, the first of 192 days of salary cap counting for the 2024-25 regular season. Since Swayman is a restricted free agent, if he is not signed by the start of the regular season, his salary cap hit for Year 1 of his new deal will be higher on the Bruins' cap than the remaining years of the deal. That will be difficult for the Bruins to navigate. -Seravalli

While the Bruins have until the December 1st deadline to sign Swayman to a contract before he goes from a restricted free agent too unrestricted, it would be in their favor to get a deal done before Monday since they do not have a lot off cap space.

While Swayman seems to have the upper hand in the current situation, if he continues to hold out, he will be missing out on quite a bit of money especially if negotiations push until the deadline.

If Swayman ends up signing for $8 million per year, by the December 1st deadline he would have missed out on almost $2.3 million from the first year of his contract.
