As the Sunday afternoon game in St. Louis approaches, both teams find themselves in contrasting positions within their conferences. A powerful performance by the Bruins today could "unofficially" mark the end of the Blues' season.
Micah Blake McCurdy from hockeyviz.com highlighted earlier today that Boston has the opportunity to single-handedly eliminate the Blues from the playoffs with a victory:
Matt Porter of The Boston Globe subsequently reported that this possibility has certainly been a topic of conversation among the Bruins players, particularly those who were part of the 2018 team that lost the Stanley Cup Final in seven games.
Interestingly, 13 current Bruins players were on that squad:
Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand, David Krejci, David Pastrnak, Jake Debrusk, Charlie McAvoy, Connor Clifton, Matthew Grzelcyk, Brandon Carlo, Trent Frederic, and Charlie Coyle. Jakub Zboril and Chris Wagner were also on the roster.
According to Porter, this situation could provide the accomplished Boston team with an additional motivation to perform well in today's game.
