South Yorkshire Police in England have officially launched an inquiry into the tragic demise of former NHL player Adam Johnson. Their confirmation of this investigation came in the form of an official statement, which contained the following information:

"We received reports of an incident during a Sheffield Steelers versus Nottingham Panthers game at the Utilita Arena in Sheffield, where a player sustained serious injuries. Our officers, in conjunction with other emergency services, swiftly arrived at the scene, and a man in his twenties was urgently transported to the hospital with severe injuries. Regrettably, he was later pronounced deceased at the hospital. Our officers are presently present at the scene, conducting inquiries, as our investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident remains ongoing," as relayed by Sky Sports.

The incident that led to Adam Johnson's passing unfolded during a match between his team, the Nottingham Panthers, and the Sheffield Steelers. Johnson sustained a grave injury when a collision with former OHL and AHL forward Matt Petgrave resulted in a skate striking his throat.

Condolences and remembrances for Johnson have poured in from the hockey community, including heartfelt tributes from his former teams such as the Pittsburgh Penguins, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, Lehigh Valley Phantoms, Malmo Redhawks, and the Augsburg Panthers.
