General Manager Don Sweeney announced that the Bruins acquired defensemen Alec Regula and Ian Mitchell from the Blackhawks in exchange for forwards Taylor Hall and Nick Foligno.
Additionally, the Bruins traded forward Shane Bowers to the Devils in return for defenseman Reilly Walsh.
These trades were essential for the Bruins as they aimed to address their struggling cap space. Although it meant bidding farewell to popular players, the moves provide the Bruins with newfound financial flexibility. With this increased cap room, the Bruins may now have a better chance of retaining forward Tyler Bertuzzi.
Through these two deals, the Bruins added three defensemen to their roster while giving up three forwards in return. The acquisitions of Regula, Mitchell, and Walsh bring versatility and potential to the Bruins' defensive unit.
