Jeremy Swayman is gearing up for another stint with the Boston Bruins, having secured a one-year contract worth $3.475 million through arbitration.

Last Season's Achievement

In the previous season, Boston witnessed a significant milestone as Swayman, along with teammate Linus Ullmark, clinched the William Jennings Award, an honor bestowed upon the goaltending duo for allowing the fewest goals.

A Different Path: Toronto Maple Leafs Miss

Reflecting on the 2017 NHL Draft, Swayman recalled different expectations. He believed he might be joining the Toronto Maple Leafs, but the team chose goaltender Ian Scott in the fourth round instead.

"I thought I might be headed to Toronto when they picked a goalie in the fourth round," Swayman shared on the "Empty Netters" podcast. Despite the initial disappointment, he remained hopeful, having ongoing conversations with other teams.

A Twist of Fate

However, destiny had other plans. Swayman learned of his future with Boston before the official confirmation from the team.

"I got a text from my buddy in Alaska who was at the draft," Swayman recalled. "He congratulated me, and I was like, 'What's going on?' My phone started buzzing non-stop. It was real. I kept refreshing my phone, and there it was."

From Disappointment to Excitement

While initial disappointment was undeniable, Swayman's emotions quickly shifted upon joining the Bruins.

"We celebrated pretty hard. The unexpectedness of it all was the best part," Swayman admitted. "One moment you're devastated, and the next moment, a whole new world opens up. Sharing that experience with others was really special, and I'm thrilled it worked out the way it did."

Alternate Scenario

Imagine the alternate universe where Swayman dons the Toronto Maple Leafs' blue and white instead of the iconic black and yellow Bruins' colors. How different might his career have unfolded in that scenario?
