Miller was signed in November 2022 but was let go just two days later. The termination process involved a settlement reached in February 2023 after the NHLPA filed a grievance.
Although the settlement details remain confidential, it granted Miller a one-time payment and unrestricted free agent status, officially ending his contract on April 30, 2023.
The controversy stemmed from Miller's 2016 assault conviction, involving bullying and abuse towards his Black classmate, Isaiah Meyer-Crothers, who had developmental disabilities.
The Arizona Coyotes, who previously drafted Miller, renounced his rights after the incident surfaced. Miller's future in professional hockey now likely lies in Europe, as he didn't play during the 2022-23 season.
