With some top talent already coming off the trade board this early before the deadline, what will the Boston Bruins pivot to next? Elias Lindholm, and Sean Monahan, regarded as the two most prized trade deadline targets, have already been traded and we are still more than a month away from the deadline. The Bruins Deadline plans seem to hinder on one player. Jake DeBrusk.

DeBrusk has had a very unusual career in Boston. He has been a solid player, to sometimes star player for them with his scoring prowess. However, two seasons ago, he unexpectedly requested a trade away from the team, a request that was not granted. Since the trade DeBrusk has been a solid top six forward for the Bruins scoring 39 goals and 75 points in 111 games over the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 season. This is with having a very slow start to this season as well.

If the Bruins are able to extend DeBrusk (he will be an unrestricted free agent at season's end), then they may pivot their trade talks elsewhere, and focus on defense. If they are unable to extend DeBrusk, they will look to include the forward in trade talks in order to bring back a top talent. DeBrusk would surely warrant plenty of offers, however they fact that he is a half year rental, unless extended, could hinder teams from moving forward.

We still have over a month until the deadline, but the rumor mill is always hot, and until a deal gets made, expect Boston and DeBrusk to be at the center of it.
