During the 2021-2022 season, Donskoi was a part of the Seattle Kraken, the team he called his last. Across the season, he took the ice for a total of 75 games.
As per reports, 31-year-old Joonas Donskoi's decision to step back from professional hockey is rooted in his concern about concussions. The news broke with a tweet:

Donskoi's choice to step away from the NHL is largely influenced by the several concussions he's experienced, the latest one occurring on September 29th, 2022, during a pre-season game against the Vancouver Canucks. With a history of 7 concussions, he has taken the thoughtful decision to prioritize his own health and the future of his family.
Throughout his NHL journey encompassing 474 games, Joonas Donskoi showcased his skills, contributing with 80 goals and 128 assists, accumulating a commendable total of 208 points.
