In the year 2019, the Ottawa Senators placed their bets on Lassi Thomson, choosing him as the 19th overall pick.
Thomson's powerful slapshot, smooth skating, and adept puck-handling skills caught the eye of scouts, who envisioned him as a valuable addition to their defensive lineup.
However, player development in the NHL is far from a one-size-fits-all journey. Lassi Thomson's route to the big league has taken an unexpected twist.
In the previous season, Thomson spent the majority of his time with the Belleville Senators, where he notched an impressive 33 points in 56 games.
Although he did make a couple of appearances in the NHL, those two outings didn't result in any points, and he averaged a mere 10 minutes and 53 seconds of ice time.
Now, the Ottawa Senators have decided to place Thomson on waivers with the intention of sending him down to the AHL, creating an opportunity for other teams in search of defensive depth.
It's worth noting that the Senators boast a formidable top-four defensive lineup, featuring Jake Sanderson, Thomas Chabot, Jakob Chychrun, and Artyom Zub. This quartet is arguably one of the best in the Atlantic division.
