The NHL world was shaken as former first overall pick Bryan Berard, now 46, found himself in the headlines after an altercation at a bar in Newport, Rhode Island, where he currently resides.

Caught on video, the incident involved Berard and another man, with the latter pushing him from behind. In response, Berard grabbed the man's shirt, prompting the police to step in.

It seems the man was unaware of Berard's identity, while Berard claims he mistook the officer trying to arrest him due to an eye injury he suffered during his playing days.

With a storied career playing for various NHL teams, including the Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Rangers, Boston Bruins, Chicago Blackhawks, and the Islanders, Berard now faces charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

While he maintains that it was a misunderstanding, Berard remains hopeful that the charges will be dropped as the court date approaches on August 9th.

This isn't the first brush with controversy for Berard, as he had previously tested positive for anabolic steroids in 2006, leading to a two-year ban from international play.
