The Bruins have achieved a lot, but they still have their sights set on the Stanley Cup. Tonight, they have the chance to secure the Presidents' Trophy as the NHL's top team.

While the players may not place much importance on regular season achievements, the Presidents' Trophy can serve as an incredible testament to the exceptional 2022-23 season they've had.

Securing the Presidents' Trophy for the Bruins on Tuesday Night

The Bruins have already locked in an early playoff berth (18 games left), taken first place in the Atlantic Division (10 games left), and can now claim the top spot in the regular season standings with eight games to go.

According to Matt Porter of the Boston Globe, here's how they can accomplish this:

''The combination of a Bruins win (vs. Predators) and Hurricanes regulation loss (vs. Lightning) clinches the Presidents' Trophy and home-ice advantage for the playoffs.''

Boasting a 57-11-5 record, the Bruins are on track to secure the NHL's best record for the second time in the past four seasons, having already achieved a 44-14-12 record with 100 points during the pandemic-shortened 2019-20 season. This would mark the franchise's fourth Presidents' Trophy win, having previously claimed the title in 1989-90 (46-25-9, 101 points) and 2013-14 (54-19-9, 117 points).

However, the so-called "Curse" associated with winning the Presidents' Trophy is a major concern. The most notable example is the 2019-20 Lightning team, which tied the NHL record with 62 wins but was shockingly swept by the Blue Jackets in the first round of playoffs.

Joe Haggerty from Boston Hockey Now provides further insight:

''Since the President's Trophy was established in 1985-86, only five President Trophy winners have gone on to win the Stanley Cup. The 1986-87 Edmonton Oilers; the 1993-94 New York Rangers; the 2000-01 Colorado Avalanche; the 2001-02 Detroit Red Wings, and the 2013 Chicago Blackhawks, who beat the Bruins in six games in the 2013 Stanley Cup Final.''

Securing the Presidents' Trophy this quickly would rank as the third-fastest clinching in league history:
