The 26-year-old was drafted 14th overall in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. During the last season, DeBrusk showcased his skills with 27 goals and 23 assists, accumulating a total of 50 points over 64 games.
His performance really stood out last season, and the Boston team is counting on him to continue his strong play, especially with the departures of Patrice Bergeron, David Krejci, and Tyler Bertuzzi.
As for the contract extension, some are drawing comparisons to Brandon Hagel. Hagel, who is 25 years old, signed an 8-year, $52 million deal with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Given the similarities between DeBrusk and Hagel, a similar amount can be anticipated for Jake.
Hopefully, Sweeney, the Bruins' General Manager, can successfully negotiate the deal.
