Following a 4-3 overtime victory in St. Louis on Saturday, Swayman's season record stands at 12-3-7. He is currently sixth in the NHL for save percentage (.918) and eighth for goals-against average (2.49). Additionally, he ranks seventh in goals saved above expected and third in 5-on-5 save percentage.
When asked on Saturday night about the significance of his All-Star selection, Swayman provided a rather intriguing response.
The latter part is particularly noteworthy. It's well-known that Swayman disliked the arbitration process during the summer. There was a significant gap of $2.8 million between his expectations and the Bruins' offer, and they couldn't reach a settlement before the hearing. An independent arbitrator eventually made a decision, fixing the amount at $3.475 million.
Arbitration sessions can be quite tense and awkward. In these meetings, the team is essentially required to present arguments about why the player doesn't deserve the salary they believe they're worth, with the player present to listen to every detail.
We hope that this will not affect long-term contract negotiations with the Bruins.
