Jim Montgomery has unveiled the explanation for benching Jeremy Swayman
Facing the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Bruins started the game aggressively and with high energy. However, after a few minutes, the momentum swiftly shifted, allowing their opponent to take control of the game until the end. Midway through the second period, trailing by two goals, Jim Montgomery decided to pull his goaltender and replace him with Linus Ullmark.
"It was just a decision I made to try and slow the game down," Montgomery said, per the team. "Also, let the entire team know that we need to pick it up. We need to go north."
The Bruins have lost 5-2 in a third consecutive game.
"I thought every part of our game was tough, to be honest," Montgomery added. "I thought we had a pretty good start to the first eight to 10 minutes and then slowly but surely started to take over the game."
The Bruins will have the opportunity to bounce back by hosting the Sharks at the TD Garden this Thursday.
