Having been in the league for an extensive period, Marchand is well aware of the demanding nature of the NHL schedule. Their recent series of games seems to validate his perspective.
The Bruins are currently playing their 14th game out of 15 in a challenging stretch that has them playing 15 games within 25 days. Presently, they have back-to-back games in Pittsburgh and St. Louis, marking five consecutive weekends with games on both Saturday and Sunday.
Scott McLaughlin from WEEI asked Marchand after the defeat to Nashville earlier this week if the schedule was taking a toll on the team. The winger provided a candid response, as reported by McLaughlin:
With 941 NHL games under his belt, the 34-year-old veteran knows what is required to maintain top performance throughout an 82-game season. It's remarkable that after nearly 15 years in the league, Marchand considers this season the most challenging (or perhaps, age is catching up with him).
The Bruins will also face another back-to-back weekend set against the Devils and Flyers the following Saturday and Sunday.
