A frightening incident occurred in the AHL when Bruins defenseman Mike Reilly was carried off the ice on a stretcher after a forceful collision with the end boards.

The Providence Bruins were playing against the Charlotte Checkers on Sunday afternoon when the event took place. Reilly, while defending against the rush, got entwined with an opposing forward and slammed into the boards back first.

As evident in the following clip, Reilly seems to lose consciousness instantly. Based on reports, the 29-year-old player had to be removed from the ice using a stretcher. See the video below:

Challenging Season for the Defenseman

Reilly, who ideally should be playing regularly in the NHL, has found himself on the outside of a strong defensive lineup in Boston. Nevertheless, he has made the best of his situation by performing well with the team's affiliate in Providence with 7 goals and 19 assists in 34 games.

As reported by Mark Allred from Black N' Gold Hockey, Reilly was conscious of his surroundings as he was being escorted off the ice:

Reilly is signed with Boston for one more year at $3 million.
