Mitchell Miller's brief and controversial stint with the Boston Bruins turned heads as he managed to secure compensation from a contract without ever setting foot on the ice for the team.
Back in November of the previous year, Miller inked a three-year, entry-level deal with the Bruins.
However, the whole situation took a surprising turn merely three months later when the team faced mounting public pressure and relentless media scrutiny, leading them to drop Miller in February 2023 and completely sever all ties with him.
The plot thickened as new information surfaced, contradicting the initial claims surrounding Miller's contract termination. It recently came to light that the official termination actually occurred on April 30th, which entitled him to compensation.
According to CapFriendly, he received a substantial sum of nearly $167,000, mainly based on his time in the minor leagues, despite the fact that he had never featured for the Providence Bruins.
The controversy surrounding Miller has been ongoing since his drafting by the Arizona Coyotes back in 2020.
After troubling incidents of bullying came to light, the Coyotes made the decision to renounce him, thus freeing him to explore other opportunities in the hockey world.
However, despite previously playing for the Tri-City Storm of the USHL from 2019 to 2022, Miller's presence on the ice was notably absent throughout the last season.
