Jake DeBrusk is fresh off his best season yet, solidifying his importance to the Boston Bruins. Despite a six-week injury layoff, he was on pace for 35 goals in the 2022-23 season, tallying 37 goals and 66 points in his last 82 regular-season games.

The Bruins' revamped forward lineup places added responsibility on DeBrusk. Coach Jim Montgomery isn't just looking for him to complement; he wants DeBrusk to be a driving force due to his speed and scoring prowess.

Montgomery stressed,

«He was really good for us for 90 percent of the games. With [Patrice] Bergeron, I could rely on 100 percent of the games. There's 10 percent that needs to be made up, and he's got to carry a bit of that load. Not only him, but others too, but I think mentally he's up for it.»

This places DeBrusk in a pivotal role, and if he falls short of expectations, a trade before the deadline might be on the horizon, potentially benefiting the Bruins in the long run.

DeBrusk recognizes the significance of consistently using his speed. With Bergeron and Krejci no longer in the picture, Charlie Coyle and Pavel Zacha will assume the top-six center positions, making DeBrusk's wing presence crucial to their transition.

He remarked,

«I agree with Monty. As the year went on, I felt that there were times when I was more confident and comfortable doing those things. The only way to improve is to keep trying. You'll stumble sometimes, but when I'm playing well, it comes naturally.»

Last season, DeBrusk also made strides in his two-way play. While contract negotiations loom, his primary focus is on contributing to the team's success and eagerly anticipating the upcoming season.
