Savard played five seasons with the Bruins from 2006-2011 before his career was cut short due to concussions suffered during his last two seasons of play. The Bruins would go on to win the Stanley Cup at the end of Savard's last season in 2011, and although he did not play in the minimum number of games required to have his name engraved on the Cup, the Bruins front office petitioned to have Savard included with his teammates.
Despite not playing in the league for seven years, Savard did not officially announce his retirement until 2018 when his contract with the Bruins came to an end. He would start his assistant coaching career shortly after with the St. Louis Blues during the 2019 season before landing his new role in Calgary at the start of this season. Savard has had quite the hockey career both as a player and now coach around the league, but he seems to have made it clear that his heart stays in Boston!
