At age 30 and after playing 7 years in the Russia for the KHL he is now a free agent and is looking to sign with an NHL club.
In a new report, Yakupov is seen training with fellow Russian NHL pros, Matvei Michkov and Andrei Svechnikov to improve and keep his game sharp.
Per The MUGNHL, they reported that there are a handful of clubs that are considering offering him a PTO (professional tryout) to analyze and judge where his game is at.
It is not clear if the Bruins are one of those teams in the conversation but could he fit in with them? Then again there is no downside to offering him a PTO.
If all goes well, it will be a major story line in the NHL this season if he gets a contract.
