The Carolina Hurricanes have just shocked the league as they have traded F Jake Guentzel to the Tampa Bay Lighting for only a 3rd-round pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft.
As the trade was done before July first and considering Guentzel is a pending UFA, Carolina has exactly 24 hours to get a deal done with the 29-year-old Forward or else he has a chance to sign with anyone.
Guentzel is asking for a number in the ballpark of $8million x 8 years which was out of the question for the hurricanes. If the Lighting can't sign him, he will explore the open market to get what he is asking for.
Last season for the Hurricanes and Penguins, Guentzel scored 30 Goals and 47 Assists for 77 points in 67 games played.
