Cameras broadcasting the event seized the encounter as Foligno and Bedard strolled into the venue together. Surprisingly, their laughter had nothing to do with the upcoming game against the Bruins; instead, it revolved around a seemingly insignificant yet unforgettable incident.
Foligno recounted their amusement to NESN.com after the game: "We were sharing a laugh over how the bus reverses into the ramp. He was in awe of it. I said, 'You know, the driver today was quite slow. There's one guy who just races up that ramp.'"
For Bedard, who was still adjusting to the NHL, this bus maneuver was a novel and intriguing experience. Foligno, with an appreciative grin, acknowledged the fresh perspective that young talents like Bedard bring to the league.
"It's fascinating to see. ... This is the enjoyable aspect of having young players. They view the NHL from a distinct lens," Foligno elucidated. "We've become so accustomed to it, and he's like, 'What on earth was that?' So, it's genuinely entertaining."
Following this light-hearted interlude, Foligno reassumed his role as a mentor to the 18-year-old Bedard, providing words of support and guidance.
"I simply said, 'This is an incredible place to play,' and he validated it tonight," Foligno continued. "He rose to the challenge. He played magnificently, and I'm overjoyed for him because, as you can see, he's constantly learning and improving. That's the exciting part. He has ample room for growth, and be prepared for when he realizes his potential."
Bedard took a significant step in his NHL journey that night, marking it with his inaugural NHL goal in the Blackhawks' 3-1 encounter with the Bruins in Boston. Foligno, a devoted teammate and leader, couldn't conceal his delight for the young player's accomplishment.
"What a fantastic goal by him," Foligno shared with reporters after the game. "He's beginning to display his true abilities. I'm delighted for him. It's a wonderful way to kick things off early."
