Detroit Red Wings legend passes away at 96

The Detroit Red Wings have announced some sad news today that 4x Stanley Cup Champion Marty Pavelich has suddenly passed away at 96.

"The Detroit Red Wings are deeply saddened to learn of the loss of Martin Nicholas (Marty) Pavelich, who passed away on Thursday at the age of 96 after a brief battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis." The Red Wings said.


Pavelich was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario and became a major part of the Detroit Red Wings Cup runs in the 50's. He joined the team in the 1947 season.

He spent his entire 10 year career with the Red Wings before retiring in 1957. where he played a total of 634 games tallying 93 Goals and 159 Assists for 252 Points. In 91 playoff games, he added 28 points (13 G, 15 A) and helped bring the Stanley Cup to Detroit in 1950, 1952, 1954 and 1955.

In this difficult time, Our Thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Pavelich family and wish them nothing but the best.

He will be missed.
