Signed: Leon Draisaitl signs record breaking 8-year contract with the Edmonton Oilers
Leon Draisait has just signed the biggest deal in NHL history worth $14M AAV for the next 8 years.
With this massive deal, he surpassed Toronto Maple Leafs superstar Austin Matthews' contract which is now $750,000 less that was Leon is making.
Draisaitl has been an absolute superstar with the Oilers and has really broke out of Connor McDavid's shadow. He helped lead the Oilers to game #7 of the Stanley Cup finals but ultimately fell short to the Florida Panthers. In the 2023-2024 season, Leon scored 41 goals and 65 assists in 81 games and added another 31 points in 25 playoff games during their deep-run.
The job is not over for the Oilers just yet as the NHL's MVP, Connor McDavid's deal expired of this season and is expected to get the highest contract ever, which warily makes sense.
It is no doubt that Draisaitl is a superstar and deserves to get a big pay day but are you still surprised of the number he got?
