Sportico's annual franchise valuations last fall revealed only two teams surpassing $2 billionthe Toronto Maple Leafs and New York Rangers. The NHL's average franchise value rose to $1 billion, a positive development, yet it falls behind the NFL, MLB, NBA, and MLS.
Sportico's latest rankings of 152 teams across major leagues highlight the NHL's valuation gap. Just two NHL teams cracked the top 75: Toronto Maple Leafs (66th, $2.12B) and New York Rangers (68th, $2.01B).
Six more NHL teams made the top 100: Montreal (79th), Chicago (87th), Boston (88th), Los Angeles (T-89th), Philadelphia (93rd), Edmonton (96th), and Washington (98th).
Conversely, the Arizona Coyotes placed 147th at $465 million. This underscores the NHL's quest to boost franchise value, spurring criticism toward Commissioner Gary Bettman's leadership.
