The start of the World Juniors Championship went very well for Bruins Prospect Matthew Poitras. The forward finished with a goal and a +1 rating in Team Canada's first game win over Team Finland.

Poitras was praised by coach Alan Letang earlier this week for his work in practice and backed it up with his solid play on the ice. The game was not as one sided as the score would suggest. Canada scored two empty net goals at the end of the game while Finland was trying to come back. This was a 2-1 game at the start of the third period when Team Canada started to pull away with Macklin Celebrini's goal six minutes into the third gave his team some breathing room. Canada outshot Finland 31-26 overall, overcoming taking six penalties throughout the game and three in the third period.

Poitras and Team Canada take on Latvia Wednesday in the second game of group play.
