The Toronto Maple Leafs currently sit second in the Atlantic Division and are closing the gap with the Bruins with each passing game among the Bruins current struggles. However, after their recent 4-1 victory in which the forward had a three-point night, Coach Sheldon Keefe's comment bring some controversary regarding the status of William Nylander.
This situation has been ongoing with the fact that Nylander is a free agent after this year and has not had extensive contract negotiations with the Maple Leafs yet. This bring to question whether the Leafs are looking to keep Nylander or let the star walk in free agency. If they don't plan on signing Nylander, they could possibly look for a trade at the deadline, but being in contention for a deep playoff run they may not want to give up on the talented forward before the playoffs even begin.
Nylander has had a solid year thus far, but it seems by Keefe's comments they are preparing for a life without Nylander, reminding the world that Austin Matthews is a generational talent who will make anyone around him better. Could Nylander possibly be available soon? Here looking forward to a hectic trade deadline!
