The Calgary Flames have been mentioned in numerous trade speculations for the 2023-24 season. We have just received confirmation from an insider that the days of the excellent defenseman Noah Hanifin are coming to an end. According to Elliotte Friedman, this could possibly be the end for the defenseman with the team. He is expected to be traded shortly.
"The team isn't commenting and the agent isn't commenting but it's pretty clear from everything we've learned today that Noah Hanifin is going to the market," said Friedman on Hockey Night in Canada.
Hanifin's agent has not officially commented on the situation. Despite this, Friedman indicates, according to his sources, that Hanifin wants to sign a long-term contract at the opening of the free agent market. Several Canadian teams would be interested, but it appears that Hanifin would like to return to the USA.
"I think there are Canadian teams interested in him but I think long term the U.S. teams are more confident that they are gonna be the ones that are able to sign him."
Friedman highlighted that despite interest from Canadian teams, American teams appear more assured of their chances to secure Hanifin for a long-term commitment. He subsequently affirmed that Hanifin's tenure with the Flames is, in fact, drawing to an end.
