The Calgary Flames have become a major target for trades this offseason as they aim to make player moves without resorting to a complete rebuild.

One of the latest rumors surrounding the Flames involves defenseman Noah Hanifin. Pierre Lebrun of the Athletic suggests that an extension for Hanifin is unlikely, as he only has one year left on his current contract with a manageable cap hit of $4.95 million.

This presents an opportunity for teams like the Boston Bruins to acquire a top-pairing defenseman.

Calgary's new GM, Craig Conroy, has expressed a willingness to move players who don't want to be with the team.

Unfortunately for the Flames, it appears that multiple players share this sentiment, potentially pushing them toward a rebuild if more deals fall through.

Noah Hanifin is among the players whose contracts expire in a year. At 26 years old, he has already showcased several impressive seasons, narrowly missing a career-high in points during the past season with 38 (7 goals, 31 assists in 81 games played).

During a podcast discussion on 32 Thoughts, Elliotte Friedman mentioned that Hanifin has expressed a desire to return to the United States. While this doesn't reflect any negative sentiment, Hanifin, being an American from Boston, prefers to play in his home country.

There have been reports of the Bruins offering first-round picks and including Jake DeBrusk in a potential deal, but their offers have been turned down. Hanifin's connection to Boston makes him a valuable addition to the Bruins' roster.
