Following a missed opportunity to regain the lead during a power play, Montreal Canadiens' forward Juraj Slafkovsky, visibly frustrated, engaged in his inaugural NHL fight with Sabres' Connor Clifton.
As Slafkovsky was heading back to the Canadiens' bench after exiting Buffalo's zone, Clifton tapped the former top pick on the rear, provoking an immediate reaction.
Slafkovsky seized Clifton as they coasted toward the glass near the Sabres' area, engaging in pushing and shoving before shedding their gloves. The Sabres' defenseman managed to land a couple of punches on the Canadiens' forward before officials intervened, leading both players to the penalty box.
Slafkovsky aimed to ignite his team, a move that seemed effective as the 19-year-old later secured the shootout-winning goal, clinching victory for the Canadiens.
