Bertuzzi Disrespect The Bruins Organization In First Interview In Toronto
Tyler Bertuzzi, a new addition to the Leafs' squad and a native of Ontario, recently spoke during the Leafs' annual charity golf tournament. During this chat, Bertuzzi shared the reasons behind his choice to join the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Despite some initial hesitation in front of the Toronto media, Bertuzzi explained his decision, stating,
"I wanted to be part of a team focused on winning. I believe the Leafs give us the best shot at a deep playoff run and, ultimately, a chance to compete for the Stanley Cup. Being close to home is a bonus. My taste of playoff hockey last year played a significant role in my decision. It's the best time of the year, and I wanted to experience it again... I'm excited."
As one of the most sought-after free agents this summer, Bertuzzi's choice reflects the confidence players have in the Leafs' potential for success.
Furthermore, Bertuzzi expressed his excitement about relocating to Toronto a few weeks ago and eagerly awaiting the start of training camp, saying,
"I'm thrilled. I've been in Toronto for a couple of weeks now - I arrived 2 or 3 weeks ago to meet my teammates, hit the ice, and work out. It's been a fantastic experience, and I can't wait for the season to kick off."
While it's unclear where Bertuzzi will fit into the Leafs' lineup, he's likely to get an opportunity on the top line alongside Matthews and Marner during the preseason. Bertuzzi's versatility as a top-6 player could bolster the Leafs' first two lines or provide essential scoring depth on the third line as needed.
