Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney is eager to secure 26-year-old winger Jake DeBrusk's future with the team by working on a contract extension and avoiding potential unrestricted free agency next July.

"We'd like to know if Jake indeed does want to be here," Sweeney expressed during a media gathering at Warrior Arena. "Hopefully, we can find common ground. We'd like to see Jake remain with the Boston Bruins."

DeBrusk has made it abundantly clear that he wants to stay with the Bruins, emphasizing his deep connection with the team. "I'm hoping to stay (with the Boston Bruins)," DeBrusk mentioned last month. "It's the only team that I know and the team that I grew up with. Hopefully, it goes in that direction, and we'll see how it goes."

DeBrusk further reiterated his commitment last week, stating,

"I'm approaching it just getting ready for game 1. Getting my game ready, and I guess when it comes to contract talks, it's one of those things where you need two sides to tango, and if it happens, it happens."

Despite a turbulent journey over the past two years, including a trade request in 2021 and a career-best season last year, DeBrusk's dedication to the team remains steadfast. General Manager Sweeney commended his growth as both a player and a person, underscoring his importance to the Bruins' upcoming season.
