Gruden's departure from the Bruins after a single season is primarily due to his new position as the head coach of AHL's Toronto Marlies in the upcoming season.
The responsibilities that were previously under Gruden's purview, particularly in terms of managing the defense and penalty kill, will now be shared among the two remaining assistant coaches of the Bruins, namely Chris Kelly and Joe Sacco.
Montgomery emphasized that the new addition to replace Gruden will have a stronger focus on player development and won't actively participate from the bench during games.
