Following a 4-3 triumph over the Penguins today, the Bruins' season record rose to 59-12-5, with Montgomery establishing a new league milestone.
Montgomery's 59 victories surpassed the previous record held by Mike Babcock, who achieved 58 wins in his debut season with the Detroit Red Wings in 2005-06.
On Thursday, against the Blue Jackets, he had already broken the franchise record for the most wins by a coach in their inaugural season. The initial record of 57 wins was established by Tom Johnson during the 1970-71 season.
