The NHL wasn't alone in delivering a strong message to A.J. Greer; Bruins' Jim Montgomery also shared his words of advice to the forward following the incident.
Maintaining Emotional Balance
Montgomery mentioned that he had a conversation with Greer after he was ejected from Thursday night's game due to a cross check to Mike Hoffman's face.
Despite Greer often being the extra player in the lineup, the Bruins' coach emphasized the importance of his team managing their emotions.
According to NESN:
''We talked about playing with emotion, which is great, but not getting emotional. Unfortunately that stick rode up. I don't know if it rode up the stick or the shoulder pad and it cut him. It's something we can learn from in the playoffs because you can't take those kinds of penalties in playoffs.''
'Whenever I do talk to him, because we're going to be off (Friday), I'll talk to him about the necessity of controlling his emotions and that he needs to learn from it, that's all. We're going to move past that.''
On Friday, Greer attended a hearing with Player Safety and was given a one game suspension for the play.
