Is there a chance that the Detroit Red Wings might snatch a few key players from the Boston Bruins, possibly even one of their former stars? As the off-season approaches, the Red Wings are in need of strengthening their roster, and the possibility of acquiring some talented free agents may happen.

One player who could catch Detroit's attention is Garnet Hathaway, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent. The Red Wings, with the potential departures of Pius Suter and Adam Erne, are likely to be on the lookout for a bottom-six forward in the free agency market. Hathaway, a 31-year-old with a solid track record, could be an ideal fit. Last season, he demonstrated his abilities by scoring 13 goals, tallying 22 points, and delivering an impressive 268 hits in 84 games split between the Washington Capitals and the Bruins.

On a different note, the Red Wings made a significant move just before the 2023 NHL Trade Deadline by trading Tyler Bertuzzi to the Bruins. While this decision made sense considering Bertuzzi's contract situation and his final year with the team, it visibly impacted team captain Dylan Larkin, who had developed a strong bond with Bertuzzi over the years. Interestingly, Bertuzzi found his stride once again after joining Boston, recording an impressive 26 points in just 28 games. Given their history together, it raises the question of whether a reunion between Bertuzzi and Larkin could be in the cards. It's certainly an intriguing possibility worth considering.

The absence of Bertuzzi in the Red Wings' lineup has undeniably been felt. Their undeniable chemistry, alongside Lucas Raymond, would form a formidable first line. Moreover, Bertuzzi's presence would significantly strengthen Detroit's power play unit, thanks to his effectiveness around the opposing net.

Although contract negotiations fell through before the trade deadline, it wouldn't hurt for the Red Wings to explore the option of bringing Bertuzzi back through free agency. His return would be a major achievement for the team as they strive to catch up with their Atlantic Division rivals.

The Bruins offer some enticing choices for the Red Wings in the free agency pool. The addition of either Dmitri Orlov or Tyler Bertuzzi would undoubtedly be a positive outcome, but there are also advantages to acquiring a gritty winger like Hathaway. The upcoming months will reveal whether any of these three players will join the ranks of the Red Wings in their pursuit of success.
