The Bruins have decided to to cut defenseman and top prospect Loke Johansson where he will be going back down to the QMJHL Moncton Wildcats to continue his development.
18-year-old Johansson was taken by Bruins in the 6th round as the 186th overall pick in last years 2024 NHL Entry Draft. Even at his young age, the Swede stands at 6'3, 213 LBS and played in 33 games last season with AIK's junior team in Sweden. He managed to score 5 goals and 8 assists for 13 points, which earned his the opportunity to also appear with AIK's pro team. In 19 games, he recorded just 1 assist and a +/- rating of -1.
It does not come to the surprise of many that Johansson was sent down this early. As a 6th round pick, he was touted as the teams biggest longshot to make the Bruins out of camp. His rawness and talent have fans excited for what his future could be but needs to grow into his body and develop a lot more in order to make an impact at the NHL level.
All the rave right now in the NHL are the stud offensive defenseman who play on the first powerplay and produce big points. Johansson is a different story, with his big body and above average skating ability, he is scouted as true stay at home d-man. He will be playing his first season with Wildcats of the QMJHL where he needs to continue developing his offensive game and it will be interesting to see what kind of season he has.
Goodluck Johansson!
