Both the Bruins and Swayman have drawn a clear line on where they stand, and both sides to not plan to budge on what they want. General Manager Don Sweeney has given a timeline of December 1st for Swayman to finalize a contract, and he does not see it coming before that. After comin over from the Ottawa Senators, Joonas Korpisalo is scheduled to be the teams opening night starter, but who will be their backup?
The Bruins are now in a situation where they will have to rely on either Michael DiPietro, or top prospect Brandon Bussi, who has not played a single game in the NHL and the former only has three under his belt.
With Swayman out, it was almost certain that Bussi would get the nod to backup Korpisalo during the regular season, but his play during the preseason has been severely underwhelming to say the least. In his first preseason appearance, he played half the game where he allowed 2 goals on 12 shots and looked to have serious issues tracking the puck and managing rebounds.
In his 2nd game against the New York Rangers, he was given the opportunity to play the full sixty minutes, but failed to rise to the occasion. He struggles greatly, allowing 4 goals on 32 shots, three of which came in the first period. If he is going to play this season, he is going to have to show a lot more in the final 4 games t o give the team confidence that he is ready for the level of play in the NHL.
