Bruins fans are already turning on newcomer Tyler Johnson, is the hate justified?
Tyler Johnson took the risky rout this offseason as he held out for a contract with a Stanley Cup contenting team. As lack of offers rolled though, he has been forced to sign a PTO with the intent to fight for a spot rather that be offered one.
Johnson released a statement of how happy is to be a apart of a Stanley Cup contending team, and you think Bruins fans would love his attitude and energy, but that is just not the case.
A bunch of posts have been made online knocking the signing, saying that Johnson provides nothing to the Boston Bruins lineup as they highlighted his tough numbers last season with the Blackhawks. He scored 17 goals and 14 assists for 31 points with a +/- rating of -35.
It is no question that his best hockey is behind him at 34-years-old, but his numbers last year do not fully reflect the ability and caliber he can play to. The Blackhawks were one of the worst teams in the NHL with a record of 23-53-6, and with a solid Bruins team, Johnson could have a bounce back year and be a good addition to the bottom-6 group, if he stays healthy...
