Bruins Legendary Broadcaster Jack Edwards has come under fire by NHL fans for his recent issues in his broadcastings. Sometimes forgetting words, slurring and inability to keep up with the action he is reporting on.
He Addressed these issues in a recent interview with the Boston Globe:
"I did not have some kind of accident. I do not have cancer. I don't have dementia. I haven't had a stroke. All of that's been confirmed by Mass. General neurology.
They've done tests that seem like I'm going through some sort of science-fiction scene, but it's really true. The images of my brain literally reveal nothing. That's my joke with them." "The way I see it, two things work to my disadvantage; the game is speeding up all the time. And I'm slowing down all the time."
Jack Edwards clearly thinks there is a simple explanation to what has been going on. The game gets faster all the time, and father time is catching up with him, slowing down his ability. Edwards also revealed he is going through what he calls an exhausting 40-60 minutes of speech therapy everyday there is not a game. He does 10 minutes on game days. He also commented on his future in Bruins broadcasting:
"I'm treating it like an in-season injury, something that's going to get better. If I, or NESN, decide that I'm hurting the product or costing the fans an enjoyable experience, I will say goodbye. But we haven't had any discussions like that.
l love my job, but I know that retirement isn't that far off."
Edwards knows his illustrious career as a play-by-play man is coming to an end and has said he wants to go out with grace, and hopes the therapy helps him do so.
