Insider Elliotte Friedman broke the news a couple weeks ago that the Sabres will likely be buying Jeff Skinner out of his contract.
Skinner has an AAV of $8.5 million with still a few years left and his production took a big hit last season which is why the Sabres want to buy him out.
This isn't breaking news. Friedman and Marek were on this a week ago.
Multiple sources have confirmed to me the Sabres will buy out the last 3 years of Skinner's contract barring an unforeseen trade.
I discuss his BUF career & reasoning for the move.
While Skinner is not the player he once was, he is only 1 season away from his 82 point season in 202-23 were he netted 25 goals.
If Sweeney approaches this the right way, he might be able to land Skinner at a great price and still get some production out of him. Skinner only had 46 points last year but 24 of them were goals proving he can still find the back of the net.
