The Bruins had an incredibly busy off-season while signing some big free agents but also let quite a few players walk away, most notably winger Jake DeBrusk.

While DeBrusk did have a shaky season in Boston, he was great for the Bruins in the playoffs which is why most fans thought he would re-sign. The issue with letting DeBrusk go was not that he left for Vancouver but that GM Don Sweeney failed to replace him with a solid top 6 winger.

Although DeBrusk struggled with consistency this past season, he still finished the year with a solid 19 goals and 40 points in 80 games. In addition, his play noticeably improved during the playoffs, as he had a team-leading five goals and 11 points in 13 games.

Boston has been looking to replace DeBrusk internally with either rookie Fabian Lysell or moving up Justin Brazeau to the second line. While either on of these moves could possibly work, there is still a big risk involved since these are two unproven players when it comes to second lines minutes in the NHL.

It will be interesting to see how the Bruins begin the season with a major hole on their second line wing that needs to be fixed urgently.
