FLASHBACK: On this day in 1999, the Boston Bruins and Edmonton Oilers completed an weird trade that involved goaltender, Kay Whitmore.

Whitmore signed a contact with the Boston Bruins in the summer 1999 and was immediately sent down to the Providence Bruins of the AHL.

6 months later his rights were traded to the Edmonton Oilers in return for future considerations.

Whitmore stay to play in Providence in the AHL appearing in 43 games, he achieved a record of 17-19-3 for the year. Whitmore would once again start in Providence in 2000-2001, going 13-8-2 and in December of 2000 the Oilers would trade him BACK to the Boston Bruins.

Even though his rights were with the Oilers, he only played for the Boston Bruins organization in the AHL, turning into one of the more weird trades you will ever see.
