Former Boston Bruins player named 35th captain of the Chicago Blackhawks

There was a lot of speculation the the Blackhawks were going to name reigning rookie of the year Conor Bedard captain but today the team went in another direction.
The Blackhawks announced that former Boston Bruins forward and veteran Nick Foligno will serve as the teams 35th captain in the organizations history. Foligno is about to start his 2nd full season with Chicago and will take over duties from long-time captain and future Hall-of-Famer Jonathan Toews.
General Manager Kyle Davidson had high praise for Foligno and said he is the perfect candidate to the lead the team in the right direction. As the former captain for the Columbus Blue Jackets, he know what to expect and can lead the young roster through his experience.
«In a very short amount of time, Nick has quickly earned the respect of his teammates and our staff,» said Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson. «Nick's commanding presence in the locker room has been instrumental in helping the team find its identity. He has served as a mentor to many of our young players both on and off the ice while also heading up the leadership group comprised of our veteran players, and we are beyond confident that he will flourish in the role of captain as we usher in a new era of Blackhawks hockey.»
This is what Nick Foligno had to say about being named captain of the historic franchise.
«The fact that Danny [Wirtz], Kyle [Davidson], Luke [Richardson] and my teammates have all put their faith in me to lead this amazing group is extremely humbling, and I thank them all for the opportunity,» Foligno said. «I am beyond honored to serve as captain for this storied franchise and its incredible fans, especially during such a pivotal time toward the team's future.»
