With only a few weeks left until the NHL season starts, Boston Bruins fans are getting impatient with the lack of developments concerning signing RFA Jeremey Swayman. Interesting enough, It was just reported by Elliotte Friedman that Sway turned down a long-term deal.

According to NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman, on the latest episode of the '32 Thoughts Podcast', he stated that the Bruins had offered the 25-year-old RFA a long term contract, but Swayman turned it down.

«I do believe at some point there was an eight-year deal on the table,» Friedman said. «But it was in the sixes. I don't think at any point here anyone's ever been close.»

The issue was not the length of the deal, because both sides have expressed their desire to have Swayman locked up for 8-years, the main discrepancy is the dollar amount. The most recent report reveals that Swayman wants a similar contract to what fellow Bruin Charlie McAvoy got, which would be around $10 million annually.

Friedman also says it's that inexperience as a full-time starter that is giving the Bruins pause. They don't have a lack of faith in Swayman, but they've never seen him take on such a role. - Friedman

With the Bruins only having $8.6 million left in cap space, with out the team making a significant move to shed some money of their current cap, a deal will not get done. Swayman and his agent are even willing to sit out in order to get what they think he deserves.
