Gary Bettman gives Cole Caufield exemption from NHL rule

Canadiens star forward Cole Caufield announced a couple days ago that he would be paying tribute to Johnny Gaudreau by changing his number.
Caufield decided to change for #22 to #13 for Johnny Gaudreau and according to recent report the change took permission from commissioner Johnny Gaudreau.
Caufield needed permission since the deadline for a number change in the NHL had already passed.
Cole Caufield's number change - I'm told there is no fee for the player to do so (unlike the NFL). That said, the deadline to make the change in Caufield's case had passed and the NHL made an exception.

This is a great move by Bettman to allow Caufield to make this touching gesture despite the deadline having already passed.
